Defending people’s civil rights led Taneeza to law school and has been exactly what she has been doing since graduating. 

Taneeza has worked to empower immigrant communities for nearly 15 years and for the last 5 has advocated for immigrant rights in the workplace, while traveling, and when encountering law enforcement. She was the Civil Rights Director for CAIR-MN (Council on American Islamic Relations MN Chapter) and a Complaint Investigator at the Minneapolis Department of Civil Rights

In 2012 she received the Saint Paul Foundation’s prestigious Facing Race Ambassador AwardHonorable Mention for her commitment to serve her community through legal work and education. More.

With her deep commitment to social justice work for vulnerable populations, Taneeza decided to concentrate her legal practice on immigration law because of the great need to serve this diverse population. She is currently a Bush Fellow working to build access to immigration law related legal services for low-income immigrants in western MN and the Dakotas. More.
